Our leadership team

ART, DESIGN, STRATEGY, SPEAKING

Pumla Maswanganyi

I am an artist, a designer, technologist, and a visionary leader; forging kaleidoscopic tapestries in the form of product, experiences and futures scenarios that blend art, innovation, and African-rooted narratives.

My approach is largely informed by my education and experience in art and human development. The tools in my arsenal are as varied as the textures of the African landscape, ranging from the elemental LO—TEK to cutting-edge technologies. A globe-trotter across five continents, my mission is to orchestrate transformative experiences, pushing boundaries to empower the global populace, especially those on the margins.

My leadership is etched in metamorphic endeavors. I have both lead my own ventures, and acted as the youngest C-Suite leader heading strategy and innovation in 2 global organisations, one serving as an advisory bridge between Africa and the US, and the other creating accessible EdTech for children in post-disaster zones and remote locations. Additionally, my human experience informed approach to inclusivity has allowed me to work with industry titans including UN Women, African Union, Nestle, Roche, and Novartis, co-designing empathetic solutions from healthcare innovations to future-ready strategies.

A speaker and orator, I paint narratives that ignite minds. I have been honoured to share my voice and thoughts to thousands in hallowed spaces like Clinton Global Initiative, Soho House, MTN, EU:Africa, the African Union and more, speaking on topics from African Art to Inclusive Innovation. My advisory roles encompass being an Inclusivity Board Member at Soho House, Vice-Chair of the Board at Girls Trip Tours, and Chief Strategic Advisor at Jara. Like the indomitable spirit of Africa, my purpose is to craft a world where creativity, inclusivity, and humanity reign supreme; where futures are as diverse as the tapestries I weave.

Fundamentally, Amukelani is an Africanist feminist dedicated to collaboratively building a tech-enabled, pro-poor, and climate smart future across public, private, and civil society sectors. In all my roles, I get called on to think through problems and then coordinate stakeholders and technology to solve them either as a product designer, consultant, a project manager, or a product manager. I am big on justice, good governance, non-commodified wellness, decolonized education, and (both good and bad) art. I am the founder of The Wellth Well, a mental health and holistic wellness ecosystem and a founding partner of Maswanganyi, Muyanga + Co. I am South African but have lived and/or worked in Singapore, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, the United States, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. Based in the City of Gold.
